Twumasi Sports Complex in Bono Region closed down after attack on RTU players, officials

According to reports, supporters of home team pelted stones at the visiting team after a 1 – 1 drawn game on match six (6) of the Division One League.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) in a statement said the facility has closed until further notice pending disciplinary actions.

The FA also condemned in no uncertain terms the non-football conduct of supporters of the home team as it takes steps for further sanctions.

“The Executive Council of the GFA has therefore decided to ban the venue indefinitely, as the Association continues to corporate with the Police to bring the perpetrators of this barbaric act to book,” the statement said

It continued, “Also, the GFA Prosecutor will review all the reports and press charges against the club and bring the matter before the Disciplinary Committee at its next sitting on Thursday, February 11, 2021.

In a similar development, Wasaman FC in the Ashanti Region has also been banned from hosting home matches at the Okese Park in Ejisu.

According to the GFA, officials of the club together its fans held a match referee hostage for bringing to an abrupt end a match against Star Madrid FC.

“As a result, Wassaman FC has been banned indefinitely from hosting matches at Ejisu. In both cases, the Competition Department is mandated to decide where the two clubs will host their home matches until further advised.”
