Sunyani Airport will be ready for use in October - President Akufo-Addo assures Bono Chief

President Akufo-Addo has assured the Omanhene of Dwenem Traditional Area, Nana Bofo Bene IV, that ongoing works on the runway extension of the Sunyani Airport will be completed and ready for public use by the 1st week of October 2020.

President Akufo-Addo gave the assurance when he addressed the Omanhene and his elders at the Jubilee House when they paid a courtesy call on him today the 13th of August 2020.

Nana Bofo Bene IV, in his address indicated that the people of Bono Region are grateful for the Sunyani Airport project which will see the rehabilitation of the runway and other facilities.

"Nananom and the people of the Bono Region are in expectant mood for the speedy completion of the project to facilitate the movement of people between the region and the rest of the country" Nana Bofo Bene IV said.

In response to the request, President Akufo-Addo noted that "by the end of September, or 1st week of October, anyone coming from Sunyani to Accra, will come by air.

"The extension of the runway has been completed and the contractor has assured that by the end of September, latest 1st week of October, flights will resume again in Sunyani" President Akufo-Addo reiterated.

Among others, Nana Bofo Bene IV, requested of government to complete the Sunyani - New Dormaa - Yawhima road project. He also suggested that the Dwenem Community Senior High School be admitted into the Public school system. President Akufo-Addo, in response to the requests said the road will certainly be completed. On the Dwenem Community Senior High School request, President Akufo-Addo said due to COVID-19, it is practically impossible to grant the request.

"The absorption of the school will not be possible this year, but next year, the Ghana Education Service will be consulted to deal with the matter" President Akufo-Addo stated.
