SDA Elder criticizes Church leadership for allowing WASSCE on Sabbath

A church Elder of Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church at Asante Agona in the Ashanti Region has criticized Central Ghana Conference (CGC) of the church for allowing their students and their schools to participate in the WASSCE on Sabbath.

Speaking on Asempa fm, Elder Kwabena Amofo said the SDA leadership should have negotiated with the President Akufo Addo ,the education Minister and WAEC to prevent Adventist students and schools from participating in the WASSCE paper on Saturday.

A student of Agona Senior High Technical School (Astec) at Agona in the Ashanti Region on Saturday refused to write his WASSCE that was scheduled because his right to worship was impeded.

He refused to write his elective Subject Asante Twi on Saturday because he believed in Sabbath commandment.

The 2020 WASSCE time table released by WAEC found out that Seventh - day Adventist students in Ghana will write some papers on Saturdays.

This was as a result of the fact that 5 Sabbath's (Saturdays) been part of the current WASSCE examination Timetable. 2020 WASSCE time table has it that, some papers especially the Core Subjects will be taken in weekends. Below are the dates suggesting that some papers will be written on

This is the first time WAEC is compelling students to write exams on Saturdays.
