It has emerged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliment (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuem, in the Western Region, Hon. George Mireku Duka is the Board Chairman of the controversial Agyapa Minerals Royalties deal championing by the Government of Ghana.
"My brother Mireku Duka from Tarkwa is the Board Chairman of Agyapa", NPP MP for Bantema Constituency in Kumasi, Hon. Daniel Okyem Aboagye revealed on Manhyia-based Opemsuo FM morning show.
According to him, the deal is not being shrouded in secrecy accusing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of peddling blatant falsehood against the deal to Ghanaians and the international communities.
"For lack of knowledge, my people perished", the Majority Spokesperson on Finance, quoted to "Nkwantananso", to host during a telephone conversation explaining the benefits of the whole Agyapa Minerals Royalties deal to Ghanaians.
"The Agyapa is a good deal which will benefit the country economically. It is not bad for the government to get into that transaction at all", MP, Hon. Daniel Okyem Aboagye claimed despite concerns from some Ghanaians and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the country.
"NDC in the 2011 budget thereabouts wanted to do the Agyapa deal but failed because of incompetence and how to go by such transaction", fumed
"With all due respect, they have taken such posture because they don't understand the issues. They are ignorant. Not all of them, though", the Bantema lawmaker described.
