Regional Minister, Kumasi Mayor inspect project works at KATH

Work is progressing steadily on the abandoned forty-four (44) year old Maternity and Children’s Block of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi after President Akufo-Addo cut sod for reactivation of work for the construction.

This was revealed today Monday, August 31, 2020 when the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah and Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi paid a working visit to construction site to inspect the project.

Speaking to journalists, the Mayor of Kumasi was satisfied with the works of contracta contractors and assured that the €155 million

projects will soon be completed to serve it purposes .

The project, which is being funded by the German Bank, Deutsche Bank after completion housed pediatrics, gynecology, and obstetrics units

In 2004, the administration of former President J. A Kufuor, took it up, but, soon after his departure from office in January 2009, work on this project was discontinued, until the assumption of office of another NPP administration, the Akufo-Addo government, in 2017.

Recounting the sequence of events leading up to the reactivation of construction work of the Block, President Akufo-Addo noted that, in 2017, his first year as President of the Republic, he paid a 3-day working visit to the Ashanti Region, where his itinerary took him to the abandoned Maternity and Children’s Block.
