President Akufo Addo revealed that government has given the green light for the commencement of regulated, responsible and sustainable mining at konongo in the Asante Akyem Central in the Ashanti Region under the Community Mining Programme (CMP).
“Talks will soon begin to extend the community program to Kononogo in the Ashanti Region”, President Akufo Addo said.
President Nana Akufo Addo revealed this at a durbar at the Konongo as part of his three day tour of the region.
This discussion with the lands and natural resource minister, according to the president will begin on Monday.
The move is meant to address the incidence of illegal mining which is incessant in the Konongo area.

The second day of the three-day tour has seen the president and his team inspect ongoing roads in the Asante Akyem South districts, the fertiliser and pork factories in the area.
He also commissioned a six unit school at Apramso and a dormitory at Konongo Odumase SHS.
Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, advised the gathering to weary of a leadership in former president John Mahama who is promising a mortuary.
He advised them the former president and the NDC who are promising to vote Nana Addo for his developmental vision.
