Ghana Armed Forces Honours An Old Olympian Prince Amartey

Before this Olympics, the last time Ghana won an individual medal at the Olympic Games was in 1972. This man in wheelchair, Prince Amartey, won that bronze for Ghana in boxing, 49 yeaars ago.

Following stories about his unfortunate state in the Volta region, the Ghana Armed Forces have quickly moved in and within a week, established an shop for him as a source of livelihood. The Amartey Mini Mart is located at the Ho Barracks, for supervision and security purposes.

The 77 year old Olympian who is now bedridden, was a member of the GAF as a Lance Corporal but was excused from after he encountered mental health challenges.

This is indeed a nice gesture for a man who served well. Kudos to the media and GAF!!
