A concern group known as Asante Youth for Sanitation and chiefs at Hwidiem in Asante Akyem North District has carried out a cleanup exercise to increase the hygiene level of the Hwidiem Community.
This exercise was aimed at removing rubbish deposit in the drainage systems.
The exercise took place at the Hwideim and Other areas of Hwidiem that needed cleaning.
Chairman of Asante Akyem North Youth for Sanitation, Ernest Antwi Boateng, gathered all the materials needed for the clean-up whilst a vehicle with a public address system informed citizens.
The event began as early as 5:30 am with the sweeping of streets to avoid the busy hours of traffic.
The exercise included the cleaning of gutters, weeding, sweeping, gathering and disposing of refuse etc.
The volunteers were offered gloves, boots and nose masks for protection and also brooms, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, cutlasses etc. to ensure that the exercise was done effectively without any health problems.
Queenmother Hwidiem , Nana Abena Afraniwaa 1 appealed to residents of Hwideim to observe good sanitation practices to avoid the outbreak of Covid-19 in the community.
She said the sanitation situation at Hwideim was worrying and appealed to residents to change their bad sanitation habits.
The Assembly man of Hwidiem , Eric Boateng drove around to announce to the residents about the cleanup exercise and also talk about keeping the environment clean.
He warned them not to dispose of their refuse in the bushes and the nearby pond.
In all about 50 volunteers joined together in the exercise and happily cleaned amidst music.
