Agogo State College inaugurates new Board of Governors




A thirteen-member board of governors of the Agogo State College in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region has inaugurated to enhance academic standards of the school.


The Board consisted of representatives from the District Assembly, Old Students, Education Directorate, Traditional Council and PTA members.


Members of the Board are Selina Anane Afoakwa (Headmistress), Mrs. Mildred Ama.K Agyapong, District Director of Education and Mary Owusu Akyiaw, Regional Director of Education.


The rest are Anthony Appiah representing the Director General of Education, Dr. Frank Boateng and Francis Omono Asamoah representatives of old Students, Anthony Berko (P.T.A. chairman), Fredrick Taylor Osei (Nana Osei Gyemena) represent Historical interest and Mission or Founder, Nana Kofi Sarfo Prempeh represent the Traditional Authority, Nicholas Budu Marfo (Teaching staff), Baah Acheamfour Eric (non-Teaching staff), Emmanuel Agyei-Boadi , a representative from the District Assembly and Albert Danso Boakye a representative of the social service committee from the District Assembly.


William Berko will serve as the Board’s Secretary .


Inaugurating the Board, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mary Owusu Akyiaw, indicated that to enable the Board to work effectively, the Ghana Education Service has approved guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education in the form of a constitution for the Board Members to operate within.


The new board is reconstituted under the Educational Act of 1961 to control and advise the management of the school to perform its duties effectively.


Mary Owusu Akyiaw, noted that the concept of putting in place a Board was based on the policy of community participation in education.


She cautioned members against undue interference in the day to day administration of the school, but expected the members to bring their experience to help the management of the school.


The Headmistress of the school, Selina Anane Afoakwa, assured the new Board of transparent administration and co-operation to ensure the discipline of students as well as academic staff.


“I pledge my support to the new Board and with the caliber of personalities on the Board, they will be able to transform the school”.


Anthony Appiah, a representative of the Director-General on the board spoke on behalf of the Members thanked the school authorities and tasked the elected representatives on the Board to bring their rich experience to help build the image of the school to the highest level.


Mrs. Mildred Ama.K Agyapong, Asante Akyem North District Director of Education, who presided over the inauguration of the Board, charged the members to live up to expectations.
